This gown will be gifted to Silas who is going through treatment for Ependymoma. This is what Silas' family shared with us about his journey:
"Silas was diagnosed with Ependymoma, a rare pediatric brain cancer, last year. He fought through a stroke during surgery and posterior fossa syndrome after - which led to the loss of his ability to walk, talk, swallow, etc. Despite that, within weeks, he regained those abilities, and while he has some issues with strength and balance, he is thriving.
After almost a year of stable scans, they received the devastating news last week that his cancer has returned in new locations of his brain. His medical team believes that because it spreads through spinal fluid, there are likely more tumors that they can't yet see. At this time, he has no symptoms and is acting like his normal happy self.
They have been working through finalizing their next steps. Currently, this looks like full brain and spine proton radiation, which they will need to travel for. After that, the they are hoping he can continue his treatment at home in Buffalo - where he can get back to the things he loves - swimming, dancing, taekwondo, and of course all his friends!"
