This gown will be gifted to three-year-old, Dallas, who is going through treatment for Canavan Disease, which is a rare genetic and progressive neurological disease. It causes him to progressively lose myelin, brain mass, and his brain, body, and nervous system don't communicate well. His condition is terminal with an average life expectancy of 3-10 years old. Dallas lost his ability to swallow at about 14 months old so he is g-tube fed and because of his neurogenic bladder, he also needs to be cathed regularly. He is legally blind but can detect light! Undortunately, Dallas can't talk, walk, roll, or hold up his own head. He is kind of like a cooked spaghetti noodle. He has a brain shunt and is high risk for spontaneous brain bleeds. He had one in March last winter and almost didn't make it. Around November last year, he started having Dysautonomia episodes where his body temp and blood pressure drop really, really low, and he goes unconscious. As well as a vigorous respiratory plan to manage his restrictive airway disease and inability to clear secretions. It's a really scary disease, and it keeps our family on our toes! But you would never know he fights so hard because he is an incredibly happy little guy! Dallas really enjoys the sounds of sirens and he is attracted to lights so I think the policeman gown would be super cute and fitting!
